About me
I am a dance artist, choreographer, and dance educator, born in Poland in 1989 and based in Frankfurt, Germany, since 2013. My practice centers on the body and movement as sites of perception, memory, embodiment, and encounter.
I am drawn to the aesthetics of shift and of the unscenic, but also to what can be funny and eye-pleasing. I artistically research and work with movement, touch, consensual physical contact and sound.
Doing that I am often interested in how social norms around gender, age, and physical interaction are embodied and experienced. These questions do not need to be made explicit; they can surface through the practice, in the ways we move, relate, touch, and perceive one another.
In recent years, I have worked with diverse groups of children, teenagers, adults, and seniors, including professional artists and people with little or no previous dance experience. My teaching and facilitation have been strongly informed by working with children and by an interest in how a proposition can become the starting point for an open and responsive dance experience with its own particular aesthetics. Rather than aiming for a predetermined experience or choreographic outcome, I create conditions in which what participants bring—their movements, ways of participating, perceptions, responses, and ways of relating—can actively shape what happens. In this sense, I aim to share dance knowledge while creating spaces in which dance can emerge through the encounter between my proposition and the people who receive it, allowing choreography, social dancing, and pedagogy to inform and enrich one another.
I am particularly interested in the moments when the process gives birth to long lasting dances that are difficult to grasp, yet become increasingly clear to be sensed. Afterwards, taking time to describe what has emerged.
My practice is rooted in a lineage of body-based dance approaches. So, somatic approaches were and still are pretty central to my practice, alongside an ongoing exploration of dance and movement techniques, methods, and concepts, including for example Limón technique or ballet.
I have been shaped by many teachers that are strong reference points in my journey: Witold Jurewicz, Anna Piotrowska, Jacek Owczarek, Harmen Tromp, Bruno Genty, Johannes and Randi Randolf, Andrea Bold, Alan Danielson, Anette Lopez Lean, Jianan Qu, Aneta Zwierzynska, Ingo Diehl, as well as many of my study colleagues, dance friends, and collaborators. Influenced also by postmodern and contemporary dance pioneers, I feel a responsibility to acknowledge and appreciate the heritage that I had chance to watch and try through my dance studies.
In 2013, I completed my Bachelor's degree in Movement Studies and Dance Pedagogy at Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria. In 2015, I received a Master's degree in Contemporary Dance Education from the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. Since then, I have led and collaborated on numerous projects with Tanzplattform Rhein-Main and Zentrum Junger Tanz at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, including Tanzklubs, Dance in Schools projects, and Tanz + Basketball machen Schule, an initiative of the Crespo Foundation in collaboration with Zentrum Junger Tanz and the SKYLINERS e.V.
Since 2022, I have been involved in the MooveOn project and have worked as a lecturer in the kindertanzt! education programme, conceived by Nira Priore Nouak, for adults working with children aged 0–10. Since 2021, I have taught seminars at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt, including Body Awareness and Improvisation Techniques and Music, Movement, and Body in the School for students of Lehramt studies.
I have collaborated with artists and groups including HellaLux Collective, Louisa Beck, Kirsten Gerwin, Paul Pape, Ensemble Via Nova, Staatstheater Darmstadt, and Tanzkongress 2022. I am also a member of ID_Frankfurt e.V. (Independent Dance and Performance Association). I also collaborate with basa e.v. (Bildungsstätte Alte Schule) in Neu-Anspach, where we explore the role and potential of body-oriented practices and dance in strengthening processes and outcomes within political education and democratic participation.
My own learning remains an ongoing part of my practice. I regularly participate in workshops and seminars in Somatics, BMC, Contact Improvisation and modern dance, and I am currently exploring tango argentino, dancing in both roles. Over the past year, I have been researching dance with children aged 1–3 together with my closest collaborator, Sibylle Magel.
